Victorian 3.9ct Diamond Butterfly Brooch
Victorian 3.9ct Diamond Butterfly Brooch
$28,500.00
Description
DATE: Victorian, c.1880
A gorgeous Victorian oversized brooch, modelled as a butterfly, and of course the best part is.. its fully set with carats of diamonds! The brooch itself features intricate openwork, each panel set with graduated old cut diamonds that glisten within the curved "wings". Each side is beautifully identical- with diamond flower clusters that appear to float in the centre of the wings- all finished with fine silver detailing and open backed settings. The main body, further set with old cuts, sprouts gorgeous gold legs and antennae with the addition of ruby cabochon eyes. The brooch is backed in 15 karat yellow gold, and even from the settings you can see the excellent craftsmanship of this gorgeous bug. If you're not a fan of a brooch, you could even hook a chain through!
Although this beautiful insect is thought of as "Psyche" - the soul, the butterfly is also believed to be a symbol of change. Their life cycle from a humble caterpillar to a chrysalis and finally a beautiful butterfly mirrors the journey of growth and transformation.
