Victorian Egyptian Revival Scarab Clover Brooch
Victorian Egyptian Revival Scarab Clover Brooch
$2,100.00
Description
DATE: Victorian, c.1890
This charming antique Egyptian Revival scarab brooch is modelled as the lucky clover. Crafted in 15k gold throughout, the piece is finished with gorgeous pearl details, and the scarabs display that charming shimmering green colour. We love this worn as a brooch, of course, but it would look even better on a chain!
The scarab was highly symbolic to the ancient Egyptians, representing rebirth and renewal. The enthusiasm for Ancient Egyptian designs in the decorative arts of the 19th Century is largely attributed to Napoleon's conquest of Egypt. Napoleon took a scientific expedition with him to Egypt, which led to a series of publications called "Description de l'Égypte", beginning in 1809. From this, themes and motifs including scarabs, pyramids, sphinxes and so on appeared in jewellery.
