DATE: Edwardian, c.1910
A cool antique equestrian brooch dating from the Edwardian period, circa 1910. Modelled in platinum, the horseshoe is studded with gold "nails" along with a stirrup that rests in the centre. The riding crop, in 18k yellow gold, with reigns that swoop under and across the entire brooch. Antique jewellery often features equestrian themes, and they became most popular during the Victorian period. Horses were the most common method of traveling for most people and were highly associated with loyalty and companionship, making them significant symbols in friendship jewellery.
