DATE: Victorian, c.1870

The sweetest pair of frog brooches, near identical other than size... a mummy and baby frog. They're set with stripes of bright old cut diamonds, with piercing emerald eyes. They come as a pair, connected by a fine chain featuring a small pearl. Typical of the Victorian period, they are 15 karat gold backed with silver fronts, and remain in great condition. Dating from the Victorian period, circa 1870.

When looking back on history, frogs jump up (literally) as having symbolic meaning throughout the world. In Chinese culture, the frog spirit Ch'ing-Wa Sheng is associated with good luck in business. However the ancient Egyptians believed in frog-goddess Heqet who was associated with Aphrodite.
