Description
DATE: 17th Century, c.1680
Posey Rings were popular during the 15th through to the 17th centuries in both England and France, as lovers' gifts. The quotations were often from contemporary courtship stories and were usually inscribed on the inner band; they were given to show regard or as a gift. This charming ring, dating from the 17th Century, circa 1680 , reads "Noe Riches To Content". To my research (and a little common sense), this was a popular sentiment during the 17th and 18th century's, and emphasizes self approval/satisfaction over materialistic wealth. I guess you could also see this as love and partnership over anything that may be seen as fake or deceiving. Its quite sweet really, and I think we could all take a hint from that sentiment. The fine lettering is engraved on the inner band, while the outer is seen as a simple gold band. Modelled in 22k gold, it remains in excellent antique condition, and is made to fit a US 7.25 finger.
