Description

DATE: Georgian, c.1700

A fantastic early Georgian Gimmel Fede Ring, modelled in silver throughout. Also known as a handclasp ring it comprises three bands, joined at the back, that slide open to reveal a double heart within. The middle band features pretty engraving, and it's made to fit a size 9.5 finger. It remains in great condition, and dates from the early Georgian period, circa 1700.

A popular choice for an engagement since the 16th and 17th century, representing the union of two people. Fede gimmel rings represent the joining of two historic jewellery traditions: the fede motif – two hands clasped together, an ancient motif that dating back to the Roman times.... And the gimmel ring made up of two or three interlocking bands. A perfect ring, not “whole” until the different parts are united.
