DATE: Victorian, c.1878

A fantastic antique memorial ring, consisting of six panels each set with ornate black enamel against the gold band. Each panel features the letters: IN, ME, MO, RY and OF or IN MEMORY OF, with an additional panel featuring a black enamel cross. The quality is amazing, with a rococo style edge and the inner band featuring the initials IB, SB and MB. These rings were worn by grieving family members and close friends, as a visible sign of mourning. It bears English hallmarks for 18k gold, dating it to Birmingham and the year 1878, and is made to fit a size 9 finger.
