DATE: Victorian, c.1890

A cool antique Cat's Eye cigar band, dating from the Victorian period, circa 1890. The band is crafted in 15k gold, and features textured details the shoulders with the initials G M F to the back of the head. Cat's Eye (a type of chrysoberyl) displays the effect of a sharp bright line through the middle of the stone, especially when it's hit by a light source. Also known as cymophane, which derives from two Greek words meaning 'wave' and 'appearance'.
