Art Deco Rare 3.25ct Spinel & Diamond Engagement Ring
$12,500.00
Description
DATE: Art Deco, c.1920
A breath-taking and rare antique ring, dating from the Art Deco period, circa 1920. The main event, a 3.25ct oval mixed cut spinel, certified no heat treatment, displaying a gorgeous vivid crimson colour. It's mounted in an impressively elegant platinum mount, featuring a crown-like gallery, set with old cut diamonds. The band is slim with diamond set shoulders, featuring fine millegrain detailing. It makes a perfect alternative engagement ring- the spinel, an underrated and gorgeous alternative to ruby.
Spinel is a little known and hugely under-appreciated gemstone. It comes in a range of colours, from deep purples and blues to bright reds and hot pinks. For thousands of years, spinels were often mistaken and mis-sold as sapphires and rubies, before a technique was eventually determined to tell the gems apart in the 18th century.
