DATE: George III, c.1790

A weird and wonderful Georgian double head pendant depicting Jesus on one side and a skull on the other. It’s carved from ox bone, with stunning detail and execution. I’m not really sure what to make of the subject… Maybe "Life and Death"... the skull is clearly some sort of memento mori, but paired with Jesus there’s likely some Christian symbolism that’s not clear. Given it’s age and the unusual subject, this is a particularly rare thing.
