DATE: Victorian, c.1880
A cool Victorian masonic orb pendant, modelled in 15k yellow gold. The frame that holds it all together is individually hinged, and the closing arms are individually hinged opening to reveal six pyramids arranged as a cross, each face hand-carved with a different masonic symbols: the all seeing eye, a star, compass, skull, cable tow, pyramid, acacia tree and so on. It seems like Mason symbolism is everywhere, even in places you may not notice. You even might not be aware of the deep meaning behind each of the symbols.... The all seeing eye aka the eye of providence. This symbol is an eye placed in the centre of a triangle or pyramid. Historically, the triangle is widely understood to represent the Supreme Being’s ever-present watchfulness however this is a story of the Freemasons, that they designed the back of the US dollar bill.
