Georgian Boxed Woven Pearl Trompe L'oeil Locket
Georgian Boxed Woven Pearl Trompe L'oeil Locket
$3,000.00
Description
DATE: Georgian, c.1780
A ravishing and romantic early antique woven pearl locket. Dating from the Georgian period, circa 1780, its composed of many, many dreamy seed pearls intricately woven across the mother of pearl locket back- I cannot imagine counting them all! The way they are set almost looks as if the piece is moving (also known as trompe l'oeil- deceives the eye), tiny seed pearls finely strung diagonally, with gorgeous natural pearls placed on top, following the same pattern. It drops from a woven pearl top, including a bail for wear on a chain, while a floral pearl woven drop hangs freely from the bottom of the locket. From the back, you can see the excellent craftsmanship put into this, each section of pearls attached by an extremely fine gut cord. The locket features a light blue fabric insert, which of course you can add your own photograph if you choose - and it comes complete with its original fitted blue box. It remains in excellent antique condition and is one of the most gorgeous locket pieces we've ever had! Insanely beautiful... purity, grace and romance.
