This breath-taking necklace dates from the July Monarchy period (1830), a time in France when there was much political and social change, and jewellery design was heavily influenced by this. Romance, a movement where the use of delicate chains, pearls, and flowers were fashionable.

Presented in its original box, the necklace comprises alternating gorgeous blue enamel diamond set panels and fleur-de-lys motifs, graduating in size. Each panel is set with fantastic rose cut diamonds, each displaying that charming sparkle against its silver settings. The pear shaped panels feature three main parts, the centre pear shaped rose cut diamond, surrounded by a cluster of further rose cuts, and finally a halo of vibrant blue enamel with white and gold speckles. The other diamond set panels are formed as fleur-de-lys, the symbol of the French royalty and just the monarchy in general. Between each panel rests a single rose cut diamond, set in silver and linked together by fine gold chain. It has a wearable length of 14.5 inches. Crafted in silver and high carat gold.

During the July Monarchy (1830-1848), also known as the "bourgeois monarchy," was a period of transition in France. It's generally seen as a period during which the upper-middle class was dominant. This brought power to Louis Philippe, and the wealthy middle class (the bourgeois monarchy) believed they could control him. Determined not to be a puppet, France underwent the beginnings of an industrial revolution, and for the
first time the condition of the industrial masses became a political issue.
