Antique 15k Gold Diving Swallow Pendant Brooch
$2,300.00
Description
DATE: Victorian, c.1900
Birds of all kinds can bee seen in many pieces of antique jewellery, but the most common were swallows and doves. Swallows were a very romantic symbol in antique jewellery and were said to represent faithfulness. An item with a swallow on it was presented to a loved one as they set out on a journey or given from the person leaving to the loved ones they left behind. It was a reminder of the love shared and a promise to return home safely.
This charming piece is modelled as the diving swallow, crafted in 15 karat gold throughout. It dates to around circa 1900, and features both pendant and brooch fittings. Its quite the attractive piece, so I'll leave that one up to you on how you wear it! It features a textured body, beak and wings, with gorgeous feathered detailing. It remains in lovely condition and dates to the late Victorian period, circa 1900.
