Georgian Sepia Mourning Clasp
$1,800.00
Description
DATE: Georgian, 1778
A stunning Georgian sepia mourning clasp with an incredibly detailed miniature portrait scene. It depicts a grieving woman sat on the edge of a plinth underneath an urn. At her feet is a winged cherub, and she's holding a navette plaque with the dedication: "E McN, OB 19th April 1778, AE 24". The back bears a second inscription: "A Loving Wife, a Tender Mother, and Sincere Friend". It's crafted in 15 karat gold, originally a clasp but with later added brooch fittings and pendant bail.
