Description

DATE: Victorian, c.1870

An antique crucifix pendant dating from the Victorian period, circa 1870. The cross features finely enamelled detail of Christ with a chased star halo. Above is INRI, which represents the Latin inscription: IESVS NAZARENVS REX IVDÆORVM, or "Jesus the Nazarene, King of the Jews" (John 19:19). John 19:20 states that this was written in three languages–Hebrew, Latin and Greek–and was put on the cross of Jesus. Crafted in 9k gold.
