Art Deco Silver 15ct Briolette Aquamarine & Pearl Pendant
$800.00
Description
DATE: Art Deco, c.1920
A stunning Art Deco aquamarine and pearl pendant dating from the 1920s. The stone is a tear-drop shaped briolette cut, 15 carats, suspended from a simple minimalist silver chain featuring a dreamy pearl. The glistens wonderfully when the facets catch the light and it's crafted in silver throughout.
The earliest record of the briolette cut go way back to the 1600s, when Jean-Baptiste Tavernier returned to Europe from India with examples of the cut. They went out of fashion through the 18th and 19th Centuries, as more "advanced" cuts (precursors to the modern brilliant) came into fashion, however they came right back in during the Edwardian era, and remained popular until the 1950s.
