1920's Enamel "Lucky Bean" Charm
1920's Enamel "Lucky Bean" Charm
$300.00
Description
DATE: Art Deco, c.1920
An adorable antique "Lucky Bean" charm dating from the 1920's. It's crafted in silver throughout, and set with the most vibrant turquoise enamelling, with a single dreamy pearl centre. Even though it may display signs of wear and tear, it still makes a cute and colourful charm to add to your collection.
Lucky beans were popular throughout the Victorian and Edwardian eras, allegedly inspired by the "sea beans" that would occasionally wash up on European beaches after travelling on Ocean currents from far more exotic lands. The fact they could still germinate after (potentially) many years at sea suggested that they must be infused with powerful good luck... and it's even said that these mysterious seafaring seeds inspired Christopher Columbus to set off in search of strange new worlds (for better or for worse...).
