DATE: Georgian, c.1750

This beautiful, rare French locket pendant dates from the Georgian period, circa 1750. The large heart shaped pendant is set with a rich Bristol blue glass, within a border of black dot paste gemstones, leading to the bail. Bristol glass gets its lovely blue colour from the inclusion of cobalt oxide in the glass-making process....It's topped with a black dot paste flower motif in the centre, and the back features a locket compartment which was once most likely home to a lock of hair. It features French marks to the bail and is crafted in silver throughout.
