DATE: Arts & Crafts, c.1880

A fantastic early Arts & Crafts signet ring dating from the latter half of the 19th century, circa 1880. It's set with a beautiful oval turquoise matrix, cut as a shallow cabochon, with wonderfully intricate grape vine and leaf shoulder detailing. Modelled in 15 karat gold throughout with a double band that splits at the shoulders.

The Arts & Crafts movement was established Britain in the late 19th Century, and is generally regarded as one of the most influential cultural developments of modern times. It grew from a concern for the growing industrialism of the past 100 years; seeking to reconnect with the traditional skills and craftsmanship, and return to a simpler way of life - as such, designs often took inspiration from the natural world.
