DATE: Victorian, c.1900

From Colorado Springs, take a drive to the mining town of Cripple Creek, where you will find the “World’s Greatest Gold Camp", Cripple Creek Gold Mine. The Cripple Creek Gold Rush was a period of gold production in the Cripple Creek area from the late 1800s until the early 1900s. Many fortunate people back in the late 1800s struck it rich finding bountiful deposits of gold in Cripple Creek and were it not for the lure of gold and the hopes of striking it rich, this part of Colorado may never have become as developed as it did back then. There was almost no gold production in the Cripple Creek district from 1963 through 1986. and over the next nine years, the district produced around a million ounces of gold, and more than 6 million ounces has been poured since 1995, bringing the total gold production in the district to more than 27 million ounces. Gold mining in Cripple Creak is supposed to end around 2027.

This ring, a fantastic piece modelled in 18k gold, dating from the Victorian period, circa 1900. It features yellow and rose gold grapes, upon a matte background, with "Cripple Creek Gold" on the inner band. Generally, grapes are viewed as a symbol of abundance and fertility, and in Greek mythology, Dionysus was recognized as a god of fertility and prosperity. Similarly, Bacchus was the Roman god of agriculture, wine and fertility. Both were usually depicted holding or wearing grapes.
