A superb Roman intaglio mounted in a Georgian era ring. The jasper stone has been carved with a chicken pecking at the ground. The rooster/hen have strong symbolism in Western literature... the rooster as a symbol of paternal and spiritual love; the hen symbolizes ideal maternal love and Christian love - she is self sacrificing, nurturing, protective and comforting.
