$2,250.00

Description

DATE: Intaglio: Roman, c.1st Century AD - Ring: Georgian, c.1800

A superb Roman intaglio mounted in a Georgian era ring. The jasper stone has been carved with a chicken pecking at the ground. The rooster/hen have strong symbolism in Western literature... the rooster as a symbol of paternal and spiritual love; the hen symbolizes ideal maternal love and Christian love - she is self sacrificing, nurturing, protective and comforting.

The intaglio is set in an 18k gold ring mount dating from the early 18th Century and featuring applied ropework detailing around the head.
