Description

DATE: Victorian, c.1890

A stunning antique signet ring featuring a large carved citrine intaglio heraldic crest and motto. On the crest is depicted a horse to one side of the diagonal banner, and four quatrefoils to the other, with armour-clad hand reaching upwards above it grasping a battle axe. A ribbon with the motto VIRTUTE ET LABORE, or "With courage and effort". The citrine weighs 14.75 carats (approx.) with a glorious orange-yellow hue and mixed faceted cut with the intaglio carved into the table. Set in an 18 karat gold ring mount with two small beads to the inner band stopping it from swivelling around the finger. English, circa 1890.
