DATE: Georgian, c.1820

A cool Georgian band ring with a neat trick. The central bands create a weird optical illusion whereby one side appears to be wider than the other. The effect becomes more pronounced if the ring is slowly rotated... A clever thing from 200 years ago, before people had access to screens and fine printing this was presumably one of the few ways to trick the mind in such a way. It's modelled in 15 karat gold and dates from the early 19th Century.
