DATE: Georgian, 1828

An exceptional Georgian memorial band dedicated to Nathaniel Fenn Esq. who died, aged 77, in November 1828. The quality is completely breathtaking, with foliate motifs around the border, and black enamelled Gothic lettering IN MEMORY OF around the middle. It's crafted in 18 karat gold, and bears clear London hallmarks for 1828. This ring would likely have been given to a close friend or relative at his funeral, commissioned as part of his estate.

There's not much about him online, other than: christening date 17th April 1750; a subscriber to the Society for bettering the condition and increasing the comforts of the Poor (£10, 10 shillings per year for life); and a reference to him on the Board of Governors of "St Luke's Hospital for Lunatiks"...
