Georgian Garnet Four-Stone Ring
Georgian Garnet Four-Stone Ring
$700.00
Description
DATE: Georgian, c.1830
Somewhat unusual to find a four-stone ring... but here we are. Odd numbers are often employed in design, anything from interiors, to jewellery, to gardens etc. I believe the logic is something to do with forcing your eyes to move around the room/space/ring/etc. And this forced movement creates strong visual interest, which seems to make sense. However, given how common it is to see three-stones and five-stones (and of course solitaires), when a four-stone comes along it's actually quite striking, if not only on account of its rarity. This one's a classic Georgian half-hoop, set with highly domed rose cut garnets (foil backed) in textured bezel mounts. Crafted it what's known as garnet gold (a little under 9k fineness gold).
