DATE: Georgian, c.1820

A cool antique Memento Mori locket charm, dating from the Georgian period, circa 1820. It centres around a domed enamelled skull and crossbones, set behind a glass panel with a gorgeously detailed gold border. It shows a gold disc shaped panel to the back, and features fittings for wear on a chain or bracelet. 

As well as looking badass, the skull symbolizes memento mori. The concept of Memento Mori, remember that you will die, have echoed throughout the ages, and serve as a reminder of the transient nature of life. They urge us to reflect on mortality in order to make the most of each moment, to better ourselves, and to fully engage with life.
