DATE: Georgian, c.1830

A superb Georgian single-stone ring set with an incredible cushion cut white paste gemstone. Made at a time when paste gemstones, essentially designed to replicate their naturally occurring counterparts, could command as much or more than real stones, this is a top-tier example of its kind; it displays strong fire and brilliance, and the cut is exceptional. It's mounted in a silver "pie crust" setting, which was likely closed backed and foiled to begin with but has been opened up at some point in its life, making it much more suitable for everyday wear. The band features elegant openworked shoulders and is crafted in 15 karat gold throughout.
