Georgian Carnelian "The Moon Fires You" Cupid Seal Fob
Georgian Carnelian "The Moon Fires You" Cupid Seal Fob
$1,000.00
Description
DATE: Georgian, c.1800
Such a sweet George III seal fob dating from the turn of the 19th Century. It's crafted in 15 karat gold, and has been set with an intaglio carved Carnelian panel in the base.
The scene depicts Cupid using a bellows to fire up a little heart - he's clearly in his workshop, surrounded by various arrows, his bow, and other love-themed trinkets. The French motto reads: "LA LUNE TE FEU" which translates literally as The Moon Fires You. A wonderfully romantically charged sentiment.
The frame of the fob itself is intricately formed, featuring foliate openwork designs and a chased flower motif at its base. Offered with a fine 16 inch gold chain.
