Antique "Watch and Pray" Athletics Medal Pendant
Antique "Watch and Pray" Athletics Medal Pendant
$650.00
Description
DATE: Art Deco, c.1927
This cool and unusual enamel medal pendant was awarded to "Athletic Champion" Walter Scott from Innerleithen School (Scotland) in 1928. The front features a fantastic enamel depiction of the devil and a priest, with "Watch and PrÆy" below in a ribbon. Finding anything about Ronan A.D 737 seemed impossible, until I came across an article that explained that he was patron saint of the Scottish town of Innerleithen!
Watch and Pray- Matthew 26:41 “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” This may mean the temptation to sleep however Jesus acknowledges that their spirit is willing to do what is right and honourable, but their "flesh" - desires, appetites, urges—is weak.
Crafted in 9k gold, it features English hallmarks for 9k gold, Birmingham 1927, so this piece will have been engraved a year later and presented as a medal.
