DATE: Georgian, c.1800

Magnificent Georgian long guard / muff chain dating from the turn of the 19th century, circa 1800. The links are fashioned in 15 karat yellow gold - extremely finely made, with intricate honeycomb design, each hexagonal cell with a tiny six pointed star at the centre. An elaborate barrel clasp fastens the ends together, with orange blossom detailing and new tongue ensuring it closes securely. The round belcher links really are an incredible feat of craftsmanship, not only on account of the intricate decoration around the outside, but they're also (seemingly) impossibly lightweight - possibly the most prized characteristic of these chains during the 19th century.
