Victorian Japanese Shakudō Locket
Victorian Japanese Shakudō Locket
$600.00
Description
DATE: Victorian, c.1860
A cool antique Shakudō locket dating from the mid Victorian era. Two different scenes are depicted on the front and back, featuring pheasant-like birds (presumably one is the male, the other the female) by bamboo on a river bank. The middle panel is made from an alloy of copper and gold, treated to have a striking black finish and adorned with two-tone gold accents. Made in Japan in the 1860s, it's a delightful thing, with gold filled border adorned with hand-chased foliate detailing.
