DATE: Victorian, c.1860
A cute antique Lucky Pig charm carved from a lovely iridescent piece of mother of pearl. The carving is of a high quality, with elongated ears and snout and original fittings for wear on a chain. Pigs have long been considered lucky, the tradition going back at least as far as the Middle Ages, when they were considered a sign of good fortune, prosperity and abundance. This little piggy dates to the Mid-Victorian period, circa 1860.
