DATE: Victorian, c.1880

Victorian jewellery often includes floral motifs, as part of their "Language of Flowers", whereby each flower or plant represented some romantic or emotional sentiment... In this case, forget-me-not flowers... According to Kate Greenaway's Language of Flowers book, this means "True love, forget me not". These gorgeous flowers are finished in blue, green and black enamel across the front of the large silver locket. Oval in shape, its hinged at one side and opens to reveal two locket compartments complete with two cream fabric inserts. Complete with an original silver bail, perfect for wear on a chain and keeping your mementos close.
