DATE: Georgian, c.1820

An incredible Georgian seal fob set with an intaglio carved yellow agate in the base. It features the head and body of a man, with the French motto: "Gardez votre loyaute. Maintenez vos droite" which translates as Maintain Your Loyalty to Uphold Your Right. I imagine the motto is part of a heraldic crest, and derived from loyalty to your King/Lord, but it translates equally well to other aspects of life/relationships. It's modelled in 15 karat gold and dates from the early 19th Century, circa 1820.
