DATE: Georgian, c.1750
Two fantastic antique intaglio seal fobs, dating from the Georgian period, circa 1750.
The larger fob depicts Lady Hope resting on an anchor awaiting the return of her beloved. The body is crafted in 15k gold with an open interior and the seal itself is chalcedony, which was later carved.
The smaller fob depicts a dove with an olive branch. The seal is carnelian agate and the body is crafted in 15k gold.
In the Biblical story, Noah sends Doves to search for land as he was floating in oceans in an Ark. When the doves came back they brought an olive twig in their beak. This twig was a symbol of dry land. Since then white doves with twigs in their beaks has become a symbol of peace.
