18th Century Derby Chelsea "Lying Lion" Porcelain Fob Seal

18th Century Derby Chelsea "Lying Lion" Porcelain Fob Seal

$1,750.00

Description

DATE: Georgian, c.1750

An original 18th Century porcelain Derby Chelsea period fob seal. This particular piece features a lion, and displays the pale colouring typical of the Chelsea factory.

These seals would have been given as love tokens by the rich and famous of the day. This Gerogian piece is not set with a seal and displays the concave base and hollowed middle typical of the early Derby Chelsea period.

From Bryant's The Chelsea Porcelian Toys (1925) p.140 - "Seal in the form of a lion lying on a green mound, the rim of the base is gilded, concave underneath."
