Victorian Pearl & Old Cut Diamond Trefoil Pendant

Victorian Pearl & Old Cut Diamond Trefoil Pendant

DATE: Victorian, c.1850

A stunning early Victorian trefoil pendant set with old cut diamonds and articulated natural pearls. The main body comprises three interlinked hoops, each one furnished with a pearl drop in the middle, and accented around the outside with solitaire diamonds in crimped silver settings. It remains complete with original bail, and a detachable brooch fitting screws on to the back adding another layer of versatility.

The diamonds themselves are worthy of note since they are a combination of old single cuts, Mazarin cuts, and Peruzzi cuts - the latter two being the earliest exampled of the brilliant cut family, introduced in the mid 16th century. As has been long been traditional, the stones have been salvaged from an older piece of jewellery and re-purposed into something more seen as more contemporary/stylish at the time. It's crafted in 15 karat gold with silver settings.
