DATE: Victorian, c.1860
A cool Victorian micromosaic "dog and pheasant" brooch dating from the 1860s. It's beautifully detailed- you can see every strand of fur on the dog, the waves in the water and textures of the plants. The mosaic tesserae are mounted in a single piece of black onyx with a 15k gold border and back. These pieces were made by Italian artisans and then set into jewellery in England.
