DATE: Victorian, c.1880

A rather special Victorian celestial brooch with a five-pointed star inside an elongated crescent moon. It's fully set with old European cut diamonds, the silver settings having oxidised over the paste century-and-a-bit creating a wonderful contrast with the icy white brilliance of the stones. It's beautifully made, 15k gold backed, and remains in great condition - crafted circa 1880 and home to approx. 2.33 carats of diamonds. I've never seen one exactly like it, and the combination of the two motifs in this arrangement is particularly striking.
