DATE: Victorian, c.1850

A sweet antique mini seal fob charm modelled as a cat sat up on its haunches on a 3D quatrefoil base. The panel at the bottom is bloodstone agate, intaglio carved with the word CONSTANCE - probably for a woman, not the German city - in gothic script (constance is an Old French word meaning "steadfastness" or "composure", from the latin constantia "firm standing, steadiness, firmness of character" etc. It's crafted in 15 karat gold, dating from the mid 19th century, circa 1850.
