Georgian Flat-Cut Garnet Riviere Suite

Georgian Flat-Cut Garnet Riviere Suite

DATE: Georgian, c.1780

A mouthwatering Georgian flat cut garnet suite, very similar to the example featured in Georgian Jewellery (Ginny Redington Dawes with Olivia Collins, swipe right to see). Garnets were the most desirable gem of their day, they were cut with a large, flat table, and set over foil in closed back settings to enhance their colour and brightness.

The suite comprises a riviere necklace and pair of earrings, each featuring naturalistic flower and foliate motifs, and it dates from the 18th Century, circa 1780. It's all original, and remains paired with it's original fitted presentation box. We've never had such a fine example, you just don't find these anymore.
