Georgian Black Dot Paste Earrings
Georgian Black Dot Paste Earrings
$950.00
Description
DATE: Georgian, c.1780
A fantastic pair of Georgian black dot paste single-stone earrings dating from the late 18th Century. The highly domed paste gemstones are foil backed to enhance their brightness, and remain full of fire and life to this day. The stones rest in silver "pie-crust" settings, a sort of amalgamation of claw and rub over, and have later added gold ear wires. The black dot in the middle of the stone has been painted on to replicate the open culet found on old cut diamonds (prior to the invention of the modern brilliant cut, they used to chop off the pointy end of the stone).
