DATE: Art Nouveau, c.1910
An exceptional three-dimensional brooch, crafted in 10k gold, dating from the Art Nouveau period, circa 1910. This beautiful brooch has been carefully crafted, modelled as a dog rose. It's finished in fine enamel work, displaying hues of green, pink and cream with a pearlescent finish. Realistic details are show through tiny enamel details and the folded edges of the petals. The centre is set with perfectly formed pearls, adding a touch of elegance to the piece. A rare a fantastic piece, remaining in great condition. Wear this as a brooch or pendant.
Jewellery often includes floral motifs, as part of their "Language of Flowers", whereby each flower or plant represented some romantic or emotional sentiment... In this case, a dog rose. According to Kate Greenaway's Language of Flowers book, this means "Pleasure and Pain".
