Andrew Grima, born in 1921 in Rome, was an Italian designer who became very popular in modern jewellery design in Britain. He was self-taught, and joined his father-in-law’s jewellery manufacturing business (H.J. Company) in 1946. He then set about innovating with new techniques for abstract designs. By the mid 1960's he became the royal and society jeweller of the day, and was awarded the DOE prize for elegant design. You can see images of Princess Margaret wearing one of his designs in a family portrait!
The bombé ring, a bold and fun piece dating from the 1960's. It's set randomly with lovely blue sapphires and diamonds over an open worked gallery, which spreads throughout the entire ring. It reminds me a lot of a beehive.. It's crafted in 18k gold with the GRIMA makers mark to the inside of the band. Fits a size US 8.
