Georgian 15k Gold Navicella Earrings
Georgian 15k Gold Navicella Earrings
$1,700.00
Description
DATE: Georgian, c.1800
These fantastic Georgian earrings are unusual little shapes and are crafted in an Ancient Roman style. I guess you could say they look like little purses or boats, tripled! After a little research, this pair look to be called "Navicella" earrings, a popular style amongst Roman women, translating to "little boat" or "little ship". This style of jewellery was made by beating sheet gold over a core made of paste, which would have possibly been used to straighten the jewel since it was made of extremely thin gold. Each earring presents an elegant boat shape, comprised of hollow gold with a curved wire for wear. They remain in excellent condition considering their age, and drop just over an inch from the ear.
