Georgian Garnet & Rose Cut Diamond Locket Ring
Georgian Garnet & Rose Cut Diamond Locket Ring
$3,500.00
Description
DATE: Georgian, c.1820
An extremely charming Georgian ring with a secret, the head features a locket compartment to hold a keepsake discretely and directly against the finger. Historically, these locket/ poison rings were used to slip poison into an unsuspecting enemy’s drink by opening the hinge of the ring when pouring. Though this style has a dark past, I think these are perfect for adding your own mementos.
Its chunky and oversized and the locket head is set with a 2.14 carat juicy garnet, surrounded by a halo of sparkling rose cut diamonds. You can hardly tell the compartment is there, unless you look really closely, and its hinged down one side opening to reveal a pretty deep space. The head is ornately finished with floral engravings that carry onto the shoulders. Its modelled in 15 karat gold throughout and dates to the Georgian period, circa 1820.
