DATE: Georgian, c.1820

Juicy Georgian earrings with vibrant flat cut garnet pastes in cut-down "pie crust" settings and diamond tops. The pastes are set over metal foil, hugely increasing their brightness and amplifying the blood-red colour to the point that they appear to glow from within - light that enters through the oversized table is reflected back out to stunning effect. The tops have been added later, suggesting the mounted garnets with their closed, dish back settings, may have been part of a larger piece - a riviere perhaps.
