Georgian Diamond & Enamel Giardinetti Ring
$4,500.00
Description
DATE: Georgian, c.1780
A gorgeous French giardinetti (or flower basket) ring, dating from the Georgian period, circa 1780. The forget-me-not flower and leaves are set with tiny rose cut diamonds over a blue enamel background, and framed within a halo of rose cuts. The band is slim and is crafted in 14k gold throughout.
Antique jewellery often includes floral motifs, as part of their "Language of Flowers". It had a major impact upon Victorian society, however, it first originated during the Georgian period. Many flowers represented a romantic or emotional sentiment, and in this case forget-me-not for true love.
