DATE: Victorian, c.1860

Cool antique binoculars charm featuring two Vauxhall Glass (aka mirror glass) lenses on the front and back. It's crafted in 15k gold with floral detailing along the body. Dates from the Victorian period, circa 1860. 

The name Vauxhall Glass, comes from that of a factory and pleasure gardens where the 18th Century high society would gather. These are a early example of the technique, which came in and out of fashion through the 18th and 19th Centuries, and they are quite simply magnificent. Silver settings with high-carat gold backs.
